BITE 2007 - Going strong

Bahrain International Travel Expo 2007, with over 9,000 visitors during the first two-days, is rapidly emerging as a specialised forum for B2C in tourism in the region for travel, leisure and hospitality sectors not only for the private sector but also for a high-profile government delegations to promote their respective countries.

High-level delegations from Malaysia and Egypt are just few examples of popularity of BITE as a serious business forum for different countries to promote their tourism sectors in Bahrain. At least one dozen medium to large sized delegations are participating in BITE 2007 to represent their respective countries.

Jamil A. Wafa, Group Chairman, Magnum Holdings (parent company of Magnum Events and Exhibitions Management – MEEM – the official organisers of BITE 2007), said that the support from the government has encouraged them to make this event a regular yearly calendar event.
Malaysia is all set to increase the number of tourists from the Middle East to 300,000 in 2007, the Malaysian Tourism Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said yesterday.

The minister, who is in Bahrain to officially represent and promote Malaysia as a tourist destination at BITE 2007, said that Malaysia’s participation at BITE follows its successful partaking at the recently concluded Arabian Travel Market held in Dubai.

Malaysia attracted more than 180,000 tourists from the Middle East last year and has organised an aggressive campaign to promote it as a prime tourist destination and consequently increase the number of tourists.
